As we approach Valentine’s Day you’ll be guided to craft a love poem that speaks of connection to nature. ❤️
The workshop includes:
Writing subjects, prompts and ‘experiments’ with a nature-based slant.
Learn creative writing skills. Techniques taught include: form, narrative structure, setting, metaphor, use of senses, body and emotion, point of view, rhythm and movement, character and dialogue, tension and humour.
Craft powerful and passionate words, in poetry and prose, to impact the reader/listener.
Explore creative process: access your connection to nature and your own animal nature as a source of creativity and words.
The writer’s life: discussion on how to begin, continue and get to the end of writing projects. How to get your work published and out into the world.
Along the way, be inspired by quotes from many traditions including: ecological writing, Shamanic texts and myth, and observational nature poetry. We’ll also look at the cutting-edge fusions of nature-writing with other genres (travel, adventure, psychology, memoir).
Writers referenced include: David Attenborough, Helen Macdonald, Nan Shephard, Anne Dillard, Clarissa Pinkola Estés,George Monbiot, Robert Macfarlane, Henry David Thoreau, Amy Liptrot, Robert Deakin, Richard Mabey, Fritjof Capra, Rumi and Mary Oliver.
Skills learnt can be taken into all genres of writing/spoken word.
The only prerequisite for taking part is a love of words and nature. Novice and experienced writers/poets/storytellers are equally welcome.
